After graduating from Elyria High School in 1950, Eleanor married her high school sweetheart, Julius “Turk” Vargo. Eleanor was a devoted and loving mother and took great pride in her family. She was a doting grandmother of seven grandchildren. “GiGi” as she was referred to, was loved by her six great-grandchildren.
Eleanor attended Kent State University and majored in Early Childhood Education. She was a faithful member of the former Magyar United Church of Christ, where she served on the consistory, helped with Bible school, and could be found with other church members making noodles during the cooler months. She served on the PTA and volunteered at both the Elyria School District and Midview School District, helping students enhance their reading and writing skills. She also volunteered at Elyria Memorial Hospital and would speak with cancer patients, as she was a survivor of Acute Myelogenous Leukemia.
Eleanor is survived by her daughters, Vicki (Jay) Baksa of Gilroy, California and Julie Vargo of Grafton, Ohio; daughter-in-law, Tammy Vargo of Melmore, Ohio; grandchildren, Jay II (Carina) Baksa, Bobby (Casey) Baksa, Tucker (Ashlee) Baksa, Briana (Kyle) Monschein, Bethany (Tyler) Smith, Jared Vargo, and Rachael Vargo; along with her great-grandchildren and numerous nephews and nieces that she cared for deeply.
