John A. Schlotterer, 69 of Elyria passed away on Wednesday, July 31, 2024. He was a social worker who loved helping disabled children. As a matter of fact, he simply loved helping all people, whether he knew them or not. John was the drum major during his years at Elyria Catholic High School and at Kent State University. He loved music and flower gardening. He spent a good portion of his life being the caregiver to his parents, especially his mother. He loved spending time with his family, especially his nephews. John was also a member of the Knights of Columbus of Elyria and the Moose Lodge #778.
John is survived by his brother, Lou Schlotterer, Jr. (Carol); his sisters, Rita Smith-Rogers (Dwight) and Kathy Holt (Matthew); nieces and nephews, Richard Schlotterer (Jennifer), Robert Schlotterer (Amy), Scott Smith (Carrie), Steven Holt (Gina), Mark Holt, Michael Rogers, and Steven Rogers (Melissa); along with numerous great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Louis Schlotterer, Sr. and Helen Luby Schlotterer.
The family will receive friends at the Reichlin Roberts Bollinger Funeral Home, 327 Cleveland St., Elyria on Sunday, August 4 from 2:00 - 4:00 and 6:00 - 8:00 pm. The Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Monday at 10:30 am at St. Jude Catholic Church 590 Poplar St., Elyria, followed by the burial at St. Mary Cemetery.
