Magdalene M Sittinger

January 22, 1931 — December 31, 2024

Elyria

Magdalene ‘Peg’ Sittinger died at home surrounded by family on December 31, 2024. Peg was born January 22, 1931, one of 11 children born to Joseph and Theresa Denes, immigrants from Hungary. After the untimely death of her mother, she lived in a Michigan orphanage for years. Peg learned to be tough, living up to her acquired nickname of ‘Mugsy’. While living in the orphanage she spent time on a local farm, where she developed a life-long love of animals.

While in Michigan Peg’s lovely singing voice was discovered, and she would sing regularly on a local Hungarian radio station. Peg’s love for music and singing followed her throughout her life. Peg worked as a department store clerk in downtown Elyria until she married Otto Sittinger, with whom she raised 6 boys and spent 68 happy years until his death in 2018. Otto was the love of her life. Peg was a caretaker at heart. Nothing gave her more joy in life than caring for her children and grandchildren or helping people in the neighborhood in need of assistance. Peg was an avid thrifter and antique collector and enjoyed history and nature programs.

Peg was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Theresa Denes; her sisters, Theresa, Julie, Liz, Ann, Martha, Catherine and Agnes; brothers, Frank, Joe and Louis; husband, Adolph ‘Otto’ Sittinger; and sons, Douglas (Mary) and Kenneth Sittinger.

Peg leaves to mourn her sons, Michael (Sarah), Brian (Kathy), Mark (Lorrie), and Bradford (Kim); 12 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild.

A private memorial service will be held graveside at a future date.
