McCray, Peggy, age 93, passed away on September 17, 2023, at St Mary’s in the Woods in Avon, OH. Peggy grew up in Ramsey, MI, where she led an idyllic life with her two brothers. She met the love of her life, Bill McCray, at a dance at the University of Michigan where they both were students. She and Bill were married January of 1950. They lived most of their 61 married years in Elyria, OH. Early in their marriage, when Bill began his law practice in Elyria, Peggy was Bill’s secretary and his biggest supporter; typing letters, answering phones and organizing Bill’s law office. Subsequently, she was his valued partner and great supporter in two other successful businesses Bill started: Parson’s Insurance Agency and Twin Lake Homes.
Peggy led a full and busy life raising her three children, and yet she still found time to volunteer. She was involved in the League of Women’s Voters, countless political campaigns (including Bill’s two runs for Congress), homeroom mother, and friendly helper to many. She was a competitive person when it came to sports and games. To say that she was a zealous and vocal Michigan Wolverine and Cleveland Browns fan would be a momentous understatement. Peggy enjoyed playing golf throughout her life – especially with Bill. She was a very sharp and competitive card player, as her family and friends will attest. She also enjoyed playing in many bridge groups over the years.
Peggy was a woman with many talents. She was an extraordinary seamstress, crochet artist, and needle pointer. Friends and family highly admired and treasured what she created for them. It often appeared that Peggy could do it all: she wallpapered, painted, made slipcovers, school clothes, and Halloween costumes. She was particularly proud that she was one of the first of her friends to have a computer. Many of her friends and children’s friends often remarked on what a wonderful wife and mother she was to her family.
Peggy and Bill enjoyed traveling to many places in the U.S. and around the world, but their favorite place was home. It was there that they created so many wonderful and lasting family memories. They were avid readers – books, newspapers, news magazines, articles and campaign materials. They instilled their love of reading AND football in their family.
Reichlin Roberts Bollinger Funeral Home is assisting the family.
