Sue Ely Krueger, 91, of Elyria, Ohio died Monday, December 23, 2024 at the StoryPoint memory care unit in Grove City, Ohio. She was born on June 13th, 1933 to Harold and Mildred Comstock.
Sue graduated from Wooster College in 1955. She received a Bachelors degree in Social work. She worked at Murray Ridge School for most of her career, and helped countless children and their parents to deal with many challenges that they needed to meet.
Sue spent much of her time helping people. She worked with too many charities to list here. She received a 50 year award for her help with the NAACP. She was president of the Spring Valley School PTA. She was president of the League of Women Voters. She was on the Elyria School Board for a term. She helped at the Elyria Neighborhood Center for many years. She was very involved in politics, and did several marches in Washington DC.
On the home front, she was ALWAYS available to babysit any of her eleven grandchildren. All four kids can credit Mom with the possibility of many of our vacations. She said that it was so good for all three generations, and I quote her on this often. She took us and many of our friends to swim and camp at Koinonia. Mom maintained a membership at that lake for about 50 years!
Sue led a very active life. She organized a group of women who called themselves the Mountain Mamas and they enjoyed many hiking trips to various ranges throughout the United States. She enjoyed traveling and going to operas and performances of any kind. She was an avid runner and loved cross country skiing.
Survivors include her four children, Kathy (Gary) White of Orient, Ohio, Michael (Jody) Ely of Painesville, Ohio, Liz (Paul) Atkinson of Hilliard, Ohio, and Ralph (Nancy) Ely of Novi, Michigan; 11 grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her sisters, Mary Evans and Nancy Comstock; and her husbands; Ralph Ely and Allen Krueger.
A celebration of life will happen at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, gifts can be made to The NAACP in Elyria, NAACP Metro Central, Box 145, Elyria, Ohio 44035
